It’s time to wipe away the patina: Cuban music in 2015 has long since emancipated itself from the clichés of the Buena Vista Social Club and salsa parties. On the jazz terrain, the island has produced a wealth of creative and innovative forces that coherently and excitingly combine its Caribbean heritage with a sonic language that can be understood worldwide. At the forefront of this new generation of jazz is pianist Ramón Valle, who with his trio is now embarking on a major international career with his trio.As the son of a trumpeter, the 51-year-old Valle was influenced from an early age by the music of Dizzy Gillespie, Gerry Mulligan and Louis Armstrong. He began his piano studies at the age of seven, during which he covered classical composers from Bach to Stravinsky as well as the world of modern jazz from Monk to Jarrett. This broad spectrum of skills shaped his unique formed his unique style and confident playing, for which he broadened his horizons even further when he moved to Europe in the late nineties. His rhythms are rooted in the traditions of the streets of Havana, but his virtuosity is indebted to McCoy Tyner, he draws his fire from the Cuban native soil, the clarity of his piano art and the melodic inventiveness, however, are fed by the Cuban roots Melodic inventiveness are equally fed by the occidental musical tradition.
