Paul McCartney has an announcement sure to top fans’ Black Friday shopping lists: On 22 November, the legendary Beatle will digitally release two never-before-heard tracks, ‘Home Tonight’ and ‘In A Hurry’ – followed by a very limited Record Store Day exclusive double A-side 7-inch picture disc single through Capitol Records on 29 November. The limited edition vinyl picture disc will feature new and exclusively created artwork based upon the parlour game ‘Exquisite Corpse’ along with a lyric insert. Both ‘Home Tonight’ and ‘In A Hurry’ were recorded during the Greg Kurstin sessions for McCartney’s chart-topping 2018 album Egypt Station.

As uDiscover Music previously reported, Egypt Station is the legendary Beatle’s first solo album to debut at No. 1. He had previously logged a pair of No. 2-debuting sets with 1997’s Flaming Pie and 2001’s Wingspan: Hits and History. As an aside, The Beatles logged four No. 1 debuts, all with albums in the 1990s and 2000s: Anthology 1 (1995), Anthology 2 (1996) and Anthology 3 (1996) and 1 (2000). It’s worth noting that before the chart began using Nielsen Music’s electronically-tracked point-of-sale information in May of 1991, only six albums debuted at No. 1.

Earlier in 2019, McCartney unveiled an expanded edition of Egypt Station entitled Egypt Station II – Explorer’s Edition, which includes 10 extra songs including live performances, unreleased tracks and exclusive bonus cuts.

Record Store Day has championed the culture of the independent record store, offering music lovers the chance to pick up exclusive releases and support their local music retailer at the same time. This year’s Record Store Day’s Black Friday is no exception. The day after Thanksgiving in the US is the start of the biggest shopping season in the country, and this event subverts the mass consumerism model—instead placing the focus on creating special limited-edition releases from revered musical artists.
