Chris Robinson Brotherhood is an American blues rock band formed in 2011 by Black Crowes singer Chris Robinson while The Black Crowes were on hiatus. “Barefoot In The Head” is fifth full-length studio release for the blues rock band. The album features a guest appearance from Alam Khan (the son of Ali Akbar Khan). And to say that in the early 90s, he was filling up stadiums and selling millions of albums. Yes millions! By him, we mean Chris Robinson: former singer of the Black Crowes, which he co-founded in 1989 with his younger brother Rich. In its glory days, the made in Georgia band served as a substitute Stones/Faces/Allman Brothers, thanks in part to their astonishing first two albums: Shake Your Money Maker in 1990, and most importantly their masterpiece The Southern Harmony And Musical Companion in 1992. After that, the Robinson brothers both went into a solo career before reuniting and parting up again, and then again… Since 2011, the older has been working under the name Chris Robinson Brotherhood, for which he surrounded himself with Neal Casal on guitar, Adam MacDougall on keyboards, Jeff Hill on bass and Tony Leone on drums. A prolific swerve as Barefoot In The Head already is their fifth album! As usual, CRB offers a delicious Southern ragout in which good old blues rock, psychedelic rock, country and soul coexist. Fans from Black Crowes’ early days will find here a fair dose of the late band’s DNA, with a supplement of soul. Groove plays an integral part in this album maybe slightly more accessible, less viscerally Southern and a bit subtler than its predecessor…
