Herman Finkers has rearranged and re-recorded his St. George Mass with Cappella Amsterdam, Holland Baroque, and Wishful Singing.
Herman Finkers composed a Latin mass, the Missa In Honorem Sancti Georgii, or Saint George’s Mass, on the occasion of his wedding blessing on 15 June 1990, still without a Credo.
Later, Finkers also wrote a Credo to it and, with third parties, made an arrangement for choir with a larger ensemble. Over the years, however, his need for a more intimate version of his own grew. He rewrote his mass into a version for string quintet, oboe, harp, harpsichord and choir. Because the wedding blessing took place in the Georgius (Joris/Sjors) church in Almelo and because Joris is the patron saint of Almelo, the mass was dedicated to Joris.”For the time being, I’m very busy with things that don’t interest anyone but me,” he confided to Van Duin. “Although,” he continued, smiling, with his glasses in his hands, “there are two more albums coming out.” (Herman Finkers)
