In the last century, Tracey Thorn was the singer of Everything But The Girl, a moving and sophisticated duo that she formed with her partner Ben Watt. In the middle of the new wave craze, the two Brits offered some kind of jazz blended with melancholic folk, that they also opened to Brazilian rhythms. And when the electro wave started to break on the United Kingdom, Everything But The Girl didn’t hesitate to try their hand at it… In between, Thorn launched into a solo career, even doing freelance work for Massive Attack (on Protection and Better Things) or for the American-Iranian house duo Deep Dish. Most of all, she released rather eclectic EPs and albums, intimate at times, electro at other times… With Record released during the winter of 2018, she is more chameleon than ever, offering her more pop side here. It is pop in its style and engaged in its content. Tracey Thorn sings here the various mountains that a contemporary woman must ascend in her everyday life. It’s an ode to femininity and feminism that leans against rather sparkling melodies and choruses.
