Tim Bernardes’ second solo album, Mil Coisas Invisíveis (2022) follows Recomeçar, which was considered one of the best albums of 2017 by Brazilian critics. Before going solo, Tim Bernardes had emerged in the indie scene with the trio O Terno, but it was after Recomeçar that the spotlight shone on him, allowing him to work with big names like Gal Costa, Maria Bethânia and Fleet Foxes. Composed between 2018 and 2020, Mil Coisas Invisíveis invites us, in 15 tracks, to penetrate the brain, traumas and memories of Tim, who exposes with vulnerability his love, his relationships and existential questions.
The album opens with the single ‘Nascer, Viver, Morrer’ (“To be born, to live, to die”), which launches the philosophical discussion, while ‘Meus 26’ sums up the feeling that permeates the whole album: “Caught between an end and a new beginning.” On ‘BB’ (Garupa de Moto Amarela), ‘Realmente Lindo’, ‘Olha’ and ‘Velha Amiga’, Tim Bernardes evokes the different phases of love, from the enchanting beginnings to the break-up, around a more minimalist orchestration, and which sometimes even flirts with soul as on ‘Felta.’ A charming album that has all the qualities to finish at the top of the lists at the end of the year. A well-deserved Qobuzissime. – Nathália Padua – Bananas
