The David Ricky Quartet was born after David Woolfson approached his old army buddy, Tony Drake, to record some songs his father had written many years ago.

They followed up by recording an album of ‘standards’, and, after the album was spotted and favoured by some record labels, David and Tony decided to put an ensemble around the setlist, and secured the musical services of Colin Brown on upright bass, and Johnny Baatjes on drums.

David has plenty of experience in the entertainment industry, having done his fair share of cabaret work, and having run the ‘Turn and Tender’ restaurant in Pretoria in the ’80’s, which hosted a weekly jazz program for SABC television.
