After years of bruised heads, long days and nights at school, and exam stress, the completion of an album has to be far more intense and redeeming than usual. Tanya Barany, who sent a greeting to Switzerland with her first single “Red Dust” from the ZHdK in 2016, not only opens at “Lights Disappear”, she bursts. Her first album (or EP, depending on your point of view) is a dark pop work that relies equally on dynamic soundscapes and emotional outbursts. Always massive, always walking in the shade. This is not only reflected in the cover motif, on which the musician falls into a foggy infinity, but also express the song names like “Nightfall” or “Neon Brain”. Especially the latter builds mountains of guitars, wants to be vanquished like the colossi in the Valais home of Tanya Barany. If you look at the performances of Tanja Zimmermann, as the singer is called bourgeois, in The Voice of Switzerland, then on “Lights Disappear” another person appears to be present. Firm, focused and exploring in the mysterious areas of melancholy rock.

With songs like “Dream Crasher” and “In Retrospect” the atmospheric Pop shows a side, which musicians like Anna Känzig try to offer, but Tanya Barany shows herself stronger and more self-confident. Their first album is a wonderful release for all those who like to go into the company of dark songs and put the world in a pleasant twilight mood. Wonderfully produced, varied and always catchy catchy. “You’re My Dream Chaser / My Dream Crashers.”
