In the summer of 1964, Jerry Wexler of Atlantic Records attended a DJ convention in Miami. Henry Stone, the record producer from Florida, suggested that he stop by a nightclub called “King of Hearts” to listen to a local singing duo, known as Sam & Dave.”It was about 165 degrees hot,” Wexler later told writer Rob Bowman. It was hot and they were hot… When I heard her that night, that was all she wrote. I immediately signed her up.»
Sam and Daves’ work with producer Isaac Hayes and backing band Booker T and the M.G.’s made them an impressive team. Their song “Soul Man” is still an R&B hit today and has a connecting force between black and white audiences.

This double CD focuses on the years 1977 to 1981. Disc one offers reinterpretations of their older hits and new versions of soul classics. Disc two contains concert recordings from 1981 before the band’s final breakup.
