On 26 March 2020, the Swedish cultural manager Martin Engstroem announced the cancellation of this year’s Verbier Festival. The popular music event in the Swiss Alps, appreciated by established Stars of the classical music industry as well as by young talents, attracts up to 35,000 visitors annually to idyllic Valais. Engstroem founded the Festival in 1994. The Event is considered to be one of the most innovative music festivals in the world. As an Alternative to the local meeting, Engstroem has now launched a digital program. During the festival season are available on the net via medici.tv and Espace 2 / RTSCulture to experience live recordings of the past years, Video Interviews and background reports as well as new performances specially initiated for the virtual Festival.Four World-First Publications. Meanwhile, Deutsche Grammophon pays tribute to the Festival with the release of four live albums. On 17 July 2020, Shostakovich’s Piano Trio No. 1 in C minor in the Interpretation of Janine Jansen (violin), Mischa Maisky (cello) and Lucas Debargue (Piano) will be presented in a frenetically celebrated performance from 2017. A foretaste of the Album is provided by the pre-release track, which will be available for streaming and Download on July 3, featuring the dreamily rambling Andante from Shostakovich’s precocious youth work.

At the end of July, three more albums will follow, which also feature world-first releases of live recordings of memorable concert events in Verbier. The Repertoire includes works by César Franck, Peter Tchaikovsky and Sergei Rachmaninoff, rousing, top-class chamber music interpreted by artists such as Joshua Bell, Lisa Batiashvili, Yuja Wang, Leonidas Kavakos, Marc-André Hamelin and many others.
