Luiz Henrique Rosa was born on November 25, 1938, in the city of Tubarão, in the south of the state of Santa Catarina. Firstborn son of the couple Raulino and Alice Rosa, he later gained seven other sisters. As a child, he lived in Lages and São José, where he met his inseparable companion throughout his life: the guitar.

At the age of 11 he came with his family to Florianópolis, a place he adopted from the beginning and honored until the last songs. “It was love at first sight,” he used to say, as the writer, journalist and friend of Luiz Henrique, Raul Caldas Filho, reports. It is said here that Luiz Henrique was the first to call himself “manezinho da Ilha” with pride.

Until then, the denomination given to the natives was considered pejorative. Music, from the beginning, was his main form of expression. But not the only one. Luiz Henrique also had a great vocation for drawing. At the age of twenty, Luiz Henrique began working at Radio Diário da Manhã, at the time one of the best in the south of the country. After a while, he already had his own program on the station, where he played his compositions and the hits of the time, such as Pat Boone, Nat King Cole, Elvis Presley, Billy Eckstine, among others. His rhythmic style already anticipated the” bossa nova”, which took its first steps in Rio de Janeiro with Tom Jobim and João Gilberto. Before composing the estimated 200 songs, Luiz Henrique also played at parties, bars and balls. In 1960, the Gaucho pianist Norberto Baldauf invited him to be part of his ensemble, of which the consecrated Elis Regina had also been a member, before emerging to stardom. With this group, the singer toured throughout the south of Brazil for about a year.In 61, he moved to Rio de Janeiro, where he performed in several nightclubs, in the famous Beco das botellas, in Copacabana, and where he also recorded his first album. A compact with two songs: Garota da rua da praia and Se o amor é isso, compositions in partnership with Claudio Alvim Barbosa (Zininho), the poet and author of Rancho De Amor ao Ilha. In 63, when he recorded his first Lp,a Bossa Moderna De Luiz Henrique, he conquered the success charts throughout the country with the songs: Sambou, sambou; no balanço do mar and Vou andar por aí.
