The multiple award-winning recordings of the Kammerorchester Basel are a genuine asset to the record market. With “Bologna 1666” they take their listeners on a musical journey to what was probably the most important musical centre of 17th-century Italy. Founded in 1666, the Accademia Filarmonica di Bologna, one of Italy’s oldest academies of music, influenced the musical life of its times far beyond the borders of Italy itself. It is thus all the more astonishing that with few exceptions, such as Giuseppe Torelli or Lorenzo Gaetano Zavateri, most of its composers have fallen into oblivion. For this recording, the Kammerorchester Basel, headed by its concert-mistress Julia Schröder, have unearthed outstanding masterpieces. These Baroque concertos by composers such as Giuseppe Torelli or Lorenzo Gaetano Zavateri are deftly combined with works by less well-known figures, including Giacomo Antonio Perti, Giuseppe Matteo Alberti, Giovanni Paolo Colonna and Girolamo Nicolò Laurenti. In the 30 years of its existence, the Basel Chamber Orchestra has developed into one of the leading chamber orchestras on the international music scene. Nowadays invitations to the most important concert arenas and festivals of the European classical music scene are just as much part of the schedule as the orchestra’s own subscription concerts in Basel. The orchestra enjoys playing under the direction of its own concertmaster and appreciates the cooperation with various conductors such as Paul Goodwin, Kristjan Järvi, Paul McCreesh and Giovanni Antonini. The list of soloists who have performed together with the orchestra is renowned: Emmanuel Pahud, Sol Gabetta, Andreas Scholl, Kristian Bezuidenhout, Matthias Goerne, Sabine Meyer, Angela Hewitt, Renaud Capuçon, Thomas Zehetmair, Sandrine Piau and many more.
