Mas que nada [ˈmaˈkiˈnadˈ] (bras.-port.) is a song composed in 1963 by Jorge Ben, which became known outside Brazil mainly through the version of Sérgio Mendes & Brasil ’66. Mendes and his group thus achieved their international breakthrough in 1966 and the start of a whole series of hits in the USA. Translated, the lyrics mean something like “Oh, what the hell?”, incorrectly indicated in many playlists as “Mais que nada”, which means “More than nothing”.
The song is still performed regularly at concerts by Mendes and Jorge Ben Jor. In 2013, it was inducted into the Latin Grammy Hall of Fame.
