Earl Hines and His Orchestra was an American swing-era big band led by pianist Earl Hines. According to Martin Kunzler, important musical personalities such as Trummy Young and Ray Nance have emerged from his “epoch-making big bands”; the Hines band of 1943, in the opinion of Siegfried Schmidt-Joos “the most interesting, progressive and experimental big band at that time”, included the leading bebop pioneers soon after, including Dizzy Gillespie, Charlie Parker, Billy Eckstine or Sarah Vaughan.
