David Sinclair is the singer-songwriter & music journalist from London, England who has led his nouveau-blues group the David Sinclair Four (DS4) since 2013. Apropos Blues is his sixth album released on the Critical Discs label. The title track was inspired by a conversation he had with Billy F. Gibbons of ZZ Top, a key influence on David’s music and songwriting imagination. As a vehicle for describing and defining the troubled world of the 2020s, Gibbons declared blues music to be of enduring relevance and importance – or as he put it: “Apropos”.

A songwriter and lyricist of unusual vision, David is known for high-end wordplay and the high-energy excellence of his band featuring Geoff Peel (lead guitar/BVs). Apropos Blues boasts contributions from harmonica virtuoso Laurie Garman (ex-Yardbirds) and Glasgow rap sensation Johnny Cypher. Previous DS records have been produced by guitar legend Robin Trower and Jordan Fish (of Bring Me The Horizon), with contributions from blues broadcasting legend Paul Jones (harmonica) and lovers rock maestro Maxi Priest.

David began his music career playing in new wave bands TV Smith’s Explorers, London Zoo and Laughing Sam’s Dice before turning his hand to journalism. He became chief rock critic of The Times of London [1985-2015] and a columnist for Rolling Stone and Billboard magazines. His interview with Billy Gibbons is the cover story on the August 2022 issue of Classic Rock.
