Claire Rousay yields poetic everyday observations at their most captivating and pop-shaped on an already acclaimed album for American Dreams.

By amplifying everyday ephemera to reveal the significance of peripheral sound, rousay’s releases both solo and alongside More Eaze, Jacob Wick and Patrick Shiroishi have come to occupy a special place in the underground imagination, where ‘a softer focus’ is sure to take root.Collaborating with visual artist Dani Toral, Rousay takes cues from colour schemes and floral motifs for a painterly sonic allegory rendered in organically soft shapes and textures, but also shaped into a sort of filigree pop form, replete with playful autotuned vox on its standout ‘peak chroma,’ and again in the surreal-time ooze of ‘stoned gesture.’

In the greater scheme of the album’s track sequence, they both manifest and dissolve with a casually ephemeral nature that’s key to Rousay’s work, transfixing like an overheard private conversation, only to recede back into drowsy, magic realism on more elusive pieces of string thizz and curiously submerged field recordings.
