Bill Carrothers is a really good and sensitive jazz musician but this CD is something different . Is not jazz, no gospel not quite classical music but work. Is a collection of classical church music, singing by his wife and with different musicians, cello, clarinets, double bass and one choir. In fact is a exercises of memory trough the songs that he uses to hear on sundays in a lutheran church. Probably for american audience will be more interesting, in fact for me is very nice and simple, very good arranged and remembering me the childhood. I don’t know if is correct the term “white gospel”but for me this album discover to me the connection between european church music and american gospel, very interesting. Is very frail and nice. Also this work connected with his previous albums like “Excelcior ” or “The Blues and the Greys: Music of the Civil War” or even “Armistice 1918” or “Civil War Diaries” all of them about the relevant of recent history in the music.
