Bad Antiko was founded as a project ensemble in 2015 with the idea of combining early music with elements from other music genres. The result is a unique style mix of popular pieces of early music movement and up-to-date hits and anything in between with plenty of room for improvisation. The four musicians all studied at the Folkwang University of the Arts in Essen, but now work in different musical fields. Holger Hahn (cello, electric bass) is a music teacher and plays in various ensembles of electric and electronic music. Jörg Kinzius (drums, bandoneon) teaches drums at the Folkwang Music School in Essen and works as a theatre musician. Dominik Schneider (flutes, quintern) teaches early music at the Folkwang University in Essen and tours as a soloist with several formations. Tobias Reisige has made a name for himself as a jazz recorder player with his band Wildes Holz. The name Bad Antiko can stand for both a fictional spa town or a punk band with a love of early music. Furthermore, the “Antiko” was a student pub in Essen with hot food until 4 am.
