Alain Jean-Marie has been tirelessly exploring the wonders of biguine for a while now. The whole series of “biguine reflections” bears, for years, the testimony of his brotherly love for this music with swaying melodies whose phrases he never ceases to magnify in relaxed dance steps.Alain Jean-Marie is certainly one of our greatest pianist. It’s very simple: he breathes the piano. Whether he is solo or as a sideman behind anyone (often female singers), he sublimates everything with his sense of interpretation.
We had heard him recently with the At Bartloy’s series. Today it is for Hélène Dumez’s label dedicated to pianists that he returns to us on a repertoire which, more than any other, is intimately attached to his body.
And it’s a huge album!
A real masterpiece for any self-respecting pianist.
With Alain Jean-Marie, it’s a whole intimate universe that takes shape under his fingers. It talks about childhood, it talks about love, it talks about dancing, it talks while dancing and it plays by making the notes sing.
But there is more to it than that. There is depth in his game. A kind of depth of the soul. A strong and powerful expressionism.
