Aili Järvelä, widely known as an authentic and soulful performer, and Sointi Jazz Orchestra, one of Finland’s most interesting new jazz groups, joined forces to release a Finnish-language album titled Unituulia.

Unituulia is a moving and atmospheric collection of new Finnish-language chansons written and arranged by Aili Järvelä and brought to life by the exceptionally diverse instrumentation of Sointi Jazz Orchestra and the expressive voice of Järvelä herself. Having premiered in 2018, the songs written and arranged by Järvelä have finally been released as an album.

Immersed in folk music ever since her childhood, Aili Järvelä is a free spirit unafraid to explore uncharted waters. Hailing from Kaustinen, Järvelä is known not only as a singer, but also as a songwriter, composer, arranger, violinist, producer and a freelance musician in many different groups and ensembles.

Sointi Jazz Orchestra is a group of young professional musicians formed in 2013 by the group’s artistic director Rasmus Soini. Sointi Jazz Orchestra is known for its unique and surprising sound that adopts a fresh take on big band music, achieved by unusual instrumentation and novel arrangements.

“In 2016, I wrote a song called Kaikesta kaukana to enter the Uuden musiikin kilpailu music contest. While the song was not accepted into the competition, Rasmus really loved it and asked me if I wanted to write a few more songs arranged for a big band and put on a concert with Sointi Jazz Orchestra. I agreed on the spot. I had never arranged music for a big band before so I was inspired by the challenge”, says Aili Järvelä.

From Finnish pop songbird, dreamy, and a catchy approach for friends of the likes of BJÖRK etc.
