In Bach’s Partita, which honors the popular chaconne of Hispanic origin, the violin symbolizes the peak of Baroque art, offering the musician a rich range of techniques of this period. At Khachaturian, he evokes Balkan folklore, while Thierry de Mey makes it the instrument of a surprising variation of the very “courteous” Passacaille.
