The band unites five musicians from Germany, Sweden and Denmark who met at the renowned Jazz Institute Berlin. The quintet’s music consists of colourful harmonies and edgy melodies that combine an aesthetic of fusion and hip-hop as well as sample-based production techniques with eclectic rhythms and complex structures inspired by the young Berlin jazz scene. Beats and hip hop are just as important to the band’s sound as the European classical tradition, Brazilian music from the 70’s or jazz history, and the individual members of the band are already among the most sought-after young musicians on the jazz scene in Germany and Europe, and in SUN ARK they come together to experiment and improvise and develop a new and contemporary sound.
