On this year’s Record Story Day (April 22), Foals have a particularly nice release in preparation for their fans: the current album “Life Is Yours” will be released as a dub rework “Life Is Dub”. Responsible for the Reworks is Dan Carey, label boss of Speedy Wunderground and producer (including Wet Leg, Slowthai, Fontaines D.C.). A first greeting from the kitchen is already available in the form of the song “2am” in the new dub version, to be heard below.Originally an exuberant, poppy track full of rich melodies, glittering synths and bell-ringing guitars, Carey’s new version of “2am” sends you to a completely different place. The tempo is slowed down and “2am” is now more of a rumbling song than a galloping one, with swampy, vibrating basses, thundering beats and all kinds of reverbs, echoes and filters that create a threatening, hypnotic intensity.
