Who has not heard the band like me in the past or did not even know that they exist, will probably stumble quite rudely over the name, at least it happened to me so. The new longplayer Onyx introduced into the system, I have a bad feeling, just the fact that US boys call themselves Pop Evil, is a dangerous combination, which suggests horrible plastic sound, which poisons your middle ear.But after a few seconds all the negativity is blown away. Goodbye My Friend starts off with electronic interludes, but the core of the art lies in modern rock, working its way quite wildly through influences from old Linkin Park, Ill Nino and Siddharta manuscripts. Easy-going beats, punchy moments and the requisite kick are all on display by Pop Evil without question. Vocally, Leigh Kakaty can put himself better than dedacht in the scene, the songwriting may be improved again in terms of continuous loop choruses. Last Man Standing nevertheless gets into the ears and stays on the hip. Fortunately Pop Evil renounce the cliché-student-machinery, which bands of the genre like to enter, just to be more successful in the mainstream. Wild as Black Stone Cherry with a slight John Bone Jovi swing in their blood, the composition of light guitar melodies in even lighter bass rhythms is quite bearable.
